The Institute has attracted an impressive range of corporate members and sponsors for its activities. These include State Road and Traffic Authorities, Automobile Associations, Government Departments and Private Industry. Furthermore, over the years membership of the Institute has been seen by many employers as a pre-requisite for employment in traffic planning and management.

To be eligible for admission as an Associate Member of the Institute, an applicant must: be in active practice in the field of traffic planning or traffic management; or have an interest in the field of traffic planning or traffic management.

Corporate membership of the Institute is composed of government and semi-government instrumentalities, companies, partnerships, associations and other business entities working in or related to the field of traffic planning or traffic management. Corporate membership may be granted by the National Council at its discretion upon receipt of an application.

To be eligible for transfer to the grade of Fellow of the Institute, an applicant shall: have had ten years of active practice in the field of traffic planning or traffic management; and have had five years in responsible charge of traffic planning or traffic management work; or have had five years in responsible charge of important scientific, educational or managerial activities of a calibre of that required in the point above; and have held the grade of member for at least five years; and be prepared to be interviewed to establish suitability.
