Call for Papers & Abstract Instructions

The National AITPM Conference 2003 is designed to provide a forum for practitioners in policy development and applications to address the important issues of putting transport/land use integration policy into practice.  The framework is contained within two themes – Setting the Scene (strategic) and  How to Do It (Practice).  We are inviting potential presenters to position their paper within one of these themes.

The 2003 Organising Committee is approaching some speakers to present in their area of expertise.  They will be supplemented by speakers who are invited to submit papers.  

Papers that address the following streams are invited:

DAY 1        Setting the Scene (strategic whys and wherefores)

1.      The real costs of not doing it: methodology and application of the triple bottom line to transport/land use options.

2.      The big players: responding to the problem with national and state strategies and policies

3.      The small bikkies: responses to the policies by local government, developers, businesses, bus and freight operators, the community.

4.      what will it take to get people to decrease car use:  the most up-to-date research in Australia and overseas

DAY 2        How to Do It (practical experience – Australian & International)

  1. existing areas:  retrofitting existing urban areas using parking policies, Transport DCPs, Local Integrated Transport Plans, Integrated Land Use and Transport Strategies,   agreements with service providers
  2. new developments:  Transport Management Access Plans, SMART Strategies, use of transport/land use models
  3. walking and cycling:  The relevance of these modes within the total picture, funding for bicycle and pedestrian facilities, health aspects
  4. a whole of government approach:  Examples of coordination or conflict

Note:

7 February 2003:  Successful registrants notified by email.

30 April 2003:  Closing date of paper receipt by Conference Committee.

Presentation by the author in person at the conference is required.

All speakers must register for conference attendance.  It is anticipated that a special rate will apply for speakers.

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

1.     Clearly state, in 300 words, the purpose, results and conclusions of the work to be described in the final paper (if the project is not completed then explain the outcomes to date and expected final results) 

2.     What is different and/or revealing about the work and describe  how it contributes to the conference theme.

3.     Nominate the Day and Stream within which your paper is to be positioned.

4.     Include contact details: contact name, organisation, address, phone number, facsimile, email address.

5.     Submission of abstracts electronically in WORD or .PDF to lhawley@syd.cardno.com.au by the 30 November 2002.

6.     Multiple abstracts can be submitted but must be separately registered.
